Pikk a side A) The father B) The neighbors

0_61_flag_320

A California dad is refusing to take down the tattered and torn American flag that's been flying on his lawn in Fresno for almost a year, despite complaints from neighbors on his military-heavy block and from a national veterans group that says he's mistreating the Stars and Stripes.

I think that it’s offensive. If you raise the flag, treat it with respect. I've seen this many times at homes and businesses. Flags that are worn, torn and dirty, just hanging around a sore to the eyes. On the other hand, 1st amendment rights are to be protected and if it’s out of spite or to protest we hve to put up with it. That’s the way the ball bounces. [QUOTE]

founder i don't think he's being a dikk. i think he is keeping it there for his son. i think all of us who oppose the war or who don't have kids fighting in the war should still share some of the sacrifice. tolerating a tattered flag for this guy who clearly loves his kid is a fair sacrifice. he's not some neighborhood asshat whose flying his flag to be a douchebag, he's doing it symbolically for his kid. i'm pretty sure i'd do the same thing in his shoes. founder if you are a neighbor then you are obligated to be neighborly. that includes mowing your grass and not leaving crap out for everyone else to see. in this case, the tattered flag is obtrusive, regardless of the symbolism intended. [QUOTE]

founder yea i guess i read it as being some lazy grouch who hasn't bothered to take down his worn out flag and now he won't take it down out of "principle." (did i spell that right?) if he's not taking it down until his son returns from war, ok i'll take his side. why not just put up a fresh new flag to make peace in the neighborhood? it's a military neighborhood, they all support your son, dude.
