There is no question that this reduced award is still severe, even harsh. It not only adequately compensates the plaintiffs for the relatively minor harm that Tenenbaum caused them; it sends a strong message that those who exploit peer-to-peer networks to unlawfully download and distribute copyrighted works run the risk of incurring substantial damages awards. Tenenbaum’s behavior, after all, was hardly exemplary. The jury found that he not only violated the law, but did so willfully.

Indian lawmakers watch pirated copy of hit movie

On June 15 the movie was screened at a plush hotel for the pleasure of dozens of legislators from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). But there was a problem. The movie is not officially available on DVD as it is still running in theaters. The BJP overcame this small problem by watching a pirate copy.

Man gets 3 years prison for selling $1M of pirated software

Gregory W. Fair, 46, pleaded guilty in April to charges of criminal copyright infringement and mail fraud for selling pirated copies of Adobe Systems programs between 2001 and 2007. In addition to sentencing Fair to three years and five months in prison, U.S. District Judge Richard W. Roberts ordered him to pay Adobe $743,098 in restitution.

Danger Mouse's Next Album Will Be A Blank CD-R

After "legal battles," Danger Mouse's new album has been shelved by his label, EMI. But fearful that his work would never be heard, Danger Mouse came up with an idea to get his music out there while at the same time showing his anger at EMI. The album, entitled Dark Night of the Soul, will be sold as a "100+ page book" of photographs inspired by the music and taken by David Lynch, and will include a blank CD-R to be filled with torrented mp3s.
