She let her 9 year old son ride the subway alone, "he was ready"

That’s why letting Izzy find his way home alone seemed like a fine idea. Not dangerous. Not crazy. Not even very hard. My husband and I talked about it and agreed that our boy was ready. So on that sunny Sunday when I took him to that big, bright store, I said those words we don’t say much anymore.

Slow, free range, idle parents can increase IQ and happiness

"Slow parents give their children plenty of time and space to explore the world on their own terms. They keep the family schedule under control so that everyone has enough downtime to rest, reflect and just hang out together. They accept that bending over backwards to give children the best of everything may not always be the best policy. Slow parenting means allowing our children to work out who they are rather than what we want them to be."

She is steadfast in this belief, despite taunts from other kids on the bus and in the cafeteria, who tell her: He can't possibly be real. Santa is a big fat fraud in a red suit. How could he get all those presents out to every child in the world in one night?

Mothers,But Not Fathers,Follow Their Own Moms Parenting Practices

Researchers at Ohio State University looked at how often parents in the 1990s spanked, read to and showed affection to their children, and compared that to how these parents were treated by their own mothers. "We were surprised that mothers seem to learn a lot about the parenting role from their own mothers, but fathers don't follow their mothers as much," said Jonathan Vespa, co-author of the study and doctoral student in sociology at Ohio State.

Mom follows through on threat to kick fighting kids out of car

1240362819389
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (April 21) - Usually, it's an empty threat: "If you kids don't stop fighting, I'm going to stop this car right now and leave you here!" But a mother from an upper-crust New York suburb went through with it, ordering her battling 10- and 12-year-old daughters out of her car in White Plains' business district and driving off, police said Tuesday.

Mom keeps pet's death secret for a few days, would you?

The moment I saw that guinea pig's corpse, I made up my mind. I would not tell my son Checkers was dead ... at least not that night. Drew had five tests within the next two days. I wasn't going to let grief jeopardize his grades.

The research found that children not facing the person pushing them were significantly less likely to talk, laugh and interact with their parents.
