Politician: Metal bats in little league should be banned

click [more] for disturbing pic. After a boys face was shattered from a baseball hit from a metal bat, Robert Fioretti introduced legislation forbidding metal bats in little league. Wooden bats hit 93mph balls, while metal bats hit 100-124mph balls according to the article. "The state proposal would make it illegal for any coach, parent or teacher to allow aluminum bats in baseball or softball games involving players under 13 years old. Violators would face fines of between $250 and $500. New York City’s council passed legislation last year banning metal bats in high school games. New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg vetoed the measure, but council members overrode the veto, and a federal judge upheld the ban. "

9 year old with rocket arm banned from pitching little league

...for safety concerns, ostensibly. Jericho Scott has a 40 mph pitch. He's obviously a superstar. They banned him from pitching because they're worried he'll hurt someone. "He throws so hard that the Youth Baseball League of New Haven told his coach that the boy could not pitch any more. When Jericho took the mound anyway last week, the opposing team forfeited the game, packed its gear and left, his coach said... The team was 8-0 and on its way to the playoffs when Jericho was banned from pitching... parents expressed safety concerns... Facing that kind of speed" is frightening for beginning players, Noble said."
