You can now buy a complete computer on a board for $89

Ti_hawkboard_front2_sm
The 3.94 x 3.54-inch (100 x 90mm) Hawkboard uses a 300MHz version of the C674x DSP line, which would appear to be the high-end C6748 model. It also offers 128MB each of DDR2 RAM and NAND flash. In addition, there are MMC/SD and SATA connections for storage. Other standard I/O includes an Ethernet port, serial port, USB Host and OTG connections, as well as a debug port.

The PlayStation 3 …everything you want in one box

So a few months ago, I finally broke down after 3 hardware failures on my X-Box 360’s and bought a PS3. I will admit it; it is a great gaming console. There are some issues with loading times being longer (see: The Orange Box), and the price is a bit steeper than the other systems out there on the market currently, but these things are overshadowed in my opinion by some additional features that aren’t really being advertised.

Ubuntu as slick as Win7, Mac OS X

Here's what the official press release won't tell you about Ubuntu 9.04, which formally hit the streets overnight: its designers have polished the hell out of its user interface since the last release in October. So much so, in fact, that I am starting to prefer using my Ubuntu "Jaunty Jackalope" desktop over the similarly slick Windows 7 beta (which I am currently running full-time on one desktop) and Mac OS X Leopard operating systems, which I also use regularly.

Building a Linux supercomputer using SSH and PVM

If you have a couple of old Linux boxes sitting around, then you’ve got the makings of a supercomputer. Dust them off, install Secure Shell (SSH) and Parallel Virtual Machine (PVM), and start your complex algorithms.

"I'm a Linux"-Linux to compete with the "I'm a Mac" ad w/ contest

Linux2
unlike Microsoft's campaign that paid Jerry Seinfeld $3 million for two commercials and acquired user videos for free, the Linux Foundation plans to compensate the winner of its contest with a free trip to Tokyo to participate in the Linux Foundation Japan Linux Symposium next October. The group hopes the submitted videos "showcase just what Linux means to those who use it, and hopefully inspires many to try it." The Linux Foundation may not have the $300 or $486 million that Microsoft and Apple spent on their battles between John Hodgman and his look alike, but it does have the support of flocks of dedicated Linux users and a strong online community to defend and promote whatever comes of the contest.
