Will Tablets Close the Book on e-Readers?

On June 21, Barnes & Noble cut the price of its nook e-reader to $199 from $259 and introduced a Wi-Fi-only version for $149. Hours later, Amazon cut the price of its Kindle to $189 from $259. In early July, Sony joined the fray by cutting prices for its three e-readers, which now start at $149.99.The Kindle, nook and Sony Reader are all devices that connect to online book stores allowing users to download digital content over a 3G wireless service, Wi-Fi or by downloading from a PC, and feature e-ink screens, which mimic the look of ordinary ink on paper.

The Kindle will soon be available at Target locations nationwide

This has been a long time coming. The Kindle has slowly been creeping into Target retail outlets the last few months, but the company just issued a presser stating that the most popular ebook reader on the planet will be available nationwide on June 6th. This officially makes Target Amazon’s first brick and mortar retail partner, although Target isn’t new to the ebook game.

Nook Passes Kindle Sales in March

Well look at this: new kid on the book, Barnes & Noble’s Nook ereader, just surpassed Amazon Kindle sales in March. Obviously the Nook is a bit newer than the Kindle and those who were going to buy a Kindle probably have already, but it also looks like B&N’s retail network is also driving sales.

Kobo - $150 minimal e-reader to be sold at Borders

Kobostack
The Kobo e-reader is the spark that set this post off; at $150, this 6?-screen, 0.1?-thin, half-pound device is among the very cheapest e-readers out there, yet Kobo also runs its own bookstore, which has the usual classics and bestsellers — probably 90% of what gets sold for e-readers. It’s going to be sold at Borders, and with its modest price tag might make for more of a temptation to browsing customers.

Kindling Warms the Heart in Buffalo

To the rest of the world, Buffalo is Siberia. Part of a gulag of rust-belt cities, hamstrung together by uncouth ways of living. Grammatically challenged, this writer wonders whether he will ever be making any sense at all.

Teen sues kindle for deleting 1984 along w/ his notes

In case you haven't followed this story, Amazon quietly and secretly deleted George Orwell's 1984 on everyone's Kindle because of a licensing issue. Now, this kid, who lost all of his notes along with the book (apparently Kindles let you add notes to your ebooks) has filed a class action suit against Amazon.

Amazon Opens Kindle to Bloggers, But Will Readers Want to Pay?

One of the benefits of Amazon’s (AMZN) Kindle reader is portable access to content. There’s a deep library of books and an increasing pool of subscription content. One of the detriments singled out by some camps is the Kindle’s closed environment. Readers looking for blog content, for example, could only select from a predetermined list of high profile publications. You might find Tech Crunch or the Huffington Post but you wouldn’t necessarily find a smaller site like Metue and probably would have no chance tuning in to the soapbox of your favorite personal pundit. Amazon chose the stations, not you. Now, that’s changing.
