IRS wants a cut of online sales on eBay, Craigslist

But if you're a frequent or big-time seller, the government might consider your proceeds to be income and could come after you for taxes. Andrea Fabiana Orellana learned that lesson the hard way. The Internal Revenue Service claimed Orellana hadn't reported more than $41,000 of income from about 1,800 eBay sales of designer clothes, shoes and other items during 2004 and 2005 and said she owed nearly $15,000 in taxes and penalties.

Earll claims eBay requires a person registering with them to be able to hear a PIN number over the phone and enter it online. Earll, who is profoundly deaf, said she has been attempting to register with the auction site to sell rare books she has found but has been unable to do so because the site does not have an alternate method of contacting deaf people.

Noca - cheaper paypal competitor that only uses checking accounts

Noca, an online payments start-up we wrote about last year, is launching its official payment service today. Formed by ex-Visa employees, Noca originally offered a micro-payments system via two Facebook applications, OneClickPay and HelpYourWorld. The company is now offering payment services for unlimited amounts. Currently, Noca has two clients; digital content provider Klatcher.com and a local little league site. The advantage of Noca’s system is that it allows online merchants to bypass high transactional fees (usually 2-3 percent plus $0.30) imposed by credit card companies on consumer purchases.
