May 4 was the 40th anniversary of the Kent State massacre, in which the Ohio National Guard shot and killed four college students at Kent State University - two who were protesting the Vietnam War, and two who were simply walking outside between classes. A fifth student's spine was severed by a bullet; he was confined to a wheelchair for life and remains so to this day.

Ariz. college to position sensors to check class attendance

The new system will use sensors to detect students’ university identification cards when they enter classrooms, according to NAU spokesperson Tom Bauer. The data will be recorded and available for professors to examine. Bauer said the university’s main goal with the sensor system is to increase attendance and student performance.
