Submitting your stories to Pikk is a great way to increase interaction of your readers. You can use Pikk to ask your readers
generic questions about your post, such as whether they found it interesting (use "Interesting or Boring") or you can ask
for a specific response to a position your post spells out (use "Agree or Object," or "Fair or Foul," for example). There are
at least 3 ways you can use Pikk with your blog postings:
- Just Submit your Story
Once your story is submitted, readers will see the headline and pitch. If you've written an interesting, non-spammy
headline, you'll get clickthroughs to your post.
- Submit your story and add a Pikk widget
The Pikk widgets are visual links that you add to your blog post to indicate that your post has been submitted
to Pikk (or not) and how many votes have been registered to your story. You can choose from one of three sizes.
The largest displays the Pikk headline and vote-type, and the smallest is a simple 16x16 Pikk flower icon. See
the widgets link for more information.
- Use the WordPress plugin.
This plugin allows WordPress bloggers to add the Pikk widget to a blog
post with a simple checkbox (it also supports adding a Digg badge so you can add Pikk and Digg badges
side by side).
- Add a Pikk widget to Blogger
These Blogger instructions will show you how you can add a Pikk Poll (or other
widgets) to your posts.
Here are some tips for submitting your blog postings to Pikk:
- Don't be Spammy
Your story will be buried (or deleted) if it's a blatant spam post. Don't phone it in by simply repeating
your product or web site's tagline and adding some non-sensical voting category like "Thrive or Fail."
Instead, make it something interesting and worth voting on. Ask users what they think of your post, or better yet,
ask interesting questions about topics covered in your post. Ask users if they agree with your position, for example.
- Tweet your posts
Pikk has built in Twitter integration, so once you've submitted your story, click the "tweet" link, and share
your story with your Twitter followers. People love to vote, and Pikk can help increase readership to your
blog by presenting them with an easy to read summary or slice of your post that is interesting enough to merit
clicking the headline.
- Invite your friends and readers to join Pikk
Click on the friends tab and invite your friends to join. Once they do, you can nudge them to vote on your stories
and other stories you find interesting. As the Pikk community grows, so do your potential readers.
