StyleHop Matches Social Gaming With The Fashion World

Stylehopshot
StyleHop, a new fashion startup launching today, is looking to help users pick out the best outfits of the season without having to wade through countless user reviews. The site ranks outfits on a five star scale based on user input. But instead of using a Hot-Or-Notesque stream of outfits to gather ratings, StyleHop offers a series of social games, each of which ask for a few ratings at a time so users don’t get bored. Included among these games is a Price Is Right-style Flash game that asks users to guess how much they think an individual item of clothing costs (between each round users are asked to rate a few outfits). To help instill a competitive atmosphere the site keeps track of how other users fare, which presumably leads players to continue playing the game...

State Trooper Gives Traffic Ticket To Woman In Labor

All too often, the congested roads of Greater Boston conspire with the vagaries of childbirth to leave a mother-to-be in a car on the roadside at one of life's most critical moments. A hard-bitten state trooper shows up and morphs into a highway midwife, clearing the newborn's nose and mouth, cutting the cord, and sometimes even saving a life. This is not one of those stories

Happiness is contagious, new study finds

So suggests a new study proposing that happiness is transmitted through social networks, almost like a germ is spread through personal contact. The research was published Thursday in BMJ, a British medical journal. It's the latest in a growing body of work investigating how our social connections--neighbors, friends, family, co-workers, fellow congregants at church and other associates--affect us. The premise is that we live in a social environment that shapes what we do and how we think and feel.

Reporter fired for swimming in bikini in suspected murderers pool

C1208_jacobson_01
(the one she just interviewed) This happened in 2007, this reporter interviewed the guy, and then was caught on tape in a bikini swimming in his pool. Bonus: she brought her kids. "Seventeen months later, the infamous footage—which eventually aired on CBS-2 news—can still be seen on the station’s Web site. For all the controversy, the grainy six-minute video rivals a department-store surveillance tape in its monotony: Mostly, Jacobson stands behind a glass door talking on the phone, wearing a halter swim top with a beach towel wrapped around her rib cage. Yet the pictures won’t go away—nor, it seems, will the bad fortune they heaped on the reporter. NBC-5 fired her the day the tape aired, and she hasn’t landed a new job since..."

Saxophone-Playing,Tango-Dancing Walrus Delights Istanbul Crowds

When The Beatles wrote 'I Am the Walrus' they probably never considered getting one of the huge marine mammals to play an instrument on it. But that was because they had never seen Sara the Walrus who delights in entertaining audiences with her saxophone skills at a Dolphinarium in Turkey.

Cooking Video Games Hit the Shelves - How Will They Do?

There's no blood, no guts, no odor. Just you and your remote, pointed toward the TV and mimicking the movements of cooking. Fail to do it quickly or accurately enough, though, and eventually you might hear one of the judges on the new Iron Chef America: Supreme Cuisine game announce, "I've had better dishes in my trailer."

Unused frozen embryos: A) dontate to other people B) destroy

You're done with fertility treatment, what do you do? "Hundreds of thousands of human embryos are currently sitting in tiny cylinders and suspended in minus-340-degree Fahrenheit liquid-nitrogen tanks. What should happen to them? In the new issue of the journal Fertility and Sterility, researchers who surveyed 1,020 patients at nine American fertility clinics reported that 54 percent of respondents with cryopreserved embryos said they were "very likely" to use them for reproduction and 21 percent were "very likely" to donate them for research. "
