Wooden bats hit 93mph balls, while metal bats hit 100-124mph balls according to the article. "The state proposal would make it illegal for any coach, parent or teacher to allow aluminum bats in baseball or softball games involving players under 13 years old. Violators would face fines of between $250 and $500. New York City’s council passed legislation last year banning metal bats in high school games. New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg vetoed the measure, but council members overrode the veto, and a federal judge upheld the ban. "
