PhrazIt - 30 character reviews of everything

This is a sort of freeform association of 30 character strings and tags. I have to say, it's not that dumb, but I don't know about a business model. From the article: "Today sees the launch of PhrazIt, a site looking to cut through the noise by offering users a tag cloud related to various topics on the web. Rather than employing a traditional star or numeric system to rate a topic, PhrazIt uses brief words or phrases no more than 30 characters long. Once a user has chosen a topic on the site, they’re presented with around 25 tags that have been entered by other visitors. You can either add your own description, or you can click on one of the existing tags (the most popular tags will grow in size, allowing users to summarize a topic quickly)."

Has eBay peaked?

Lots of analysis going on lately, including this piece contemplating the limit of the 'network effect.' From the article: "eBay may also be a victim of its popularity: by trying to accommodate their hundreds of millions of users, eBay may have ended up displeasing many of them. Indeed, the site is so bloated and feature-laden that its programmers seem unable to manage it anymore, and its customer service has become overextended as a result"

Is mom partially to blame for kids being held captive for 3 yrs?

In case you haven't heard this sick story, a man is accused of holding his wife and kids captive in a bug-infested trailer for 3 years. The mother escaped after the man starting having an affair with another women. He sounds like a catch, and I can see why the other woman would have the affair with him. From the article: "Thousands of roaches and other bugs crawled in and out of drawers, cupboards and furniture. Spoiled food littered the place, and a long-ignored plumbing problem left the floors rotten and mattresses moldy....Thurmond's wife finally came forward after he told her he was leaving her for another woman and that he'd return every few days with food, Collins said."

Doctors removing organs from dying babies to save other babies

...as soon as the babies heart stops beating but the brain may not be. That heart is then transplanted and restarted in another baby's body. The timing seems to make a difference in saving lives. The donating babies have no hope of survival, usually from severe brain damage. Quote 1: "'In a very important way, it's a wonderful story. You had three situations with hopeless medical problems who would have otherwise died but got this gift of life,'" Quote 2) "'This practice cannot be ethically justified... The donors are not dead. I understand that they would like us to change the definition of death, but they can't do that by themselves. It's very problematic to start treating a baby as an organ donor before it's dead.'"

The Census Bureau has released its new projections and has move that year up 8 years from 2050. Hispanics make up the fastest growing percentage of the population. From the article: "'The white population is older and very much centered around the aging baby boomers who are well past their high fertility years,' said William Frey, a demographer at the Brookings Institution, a Washington think tank. Two college wreslers kicked off team for posing nude? Fair?

(on gay web site) Two wreslers posed nude for a gay web site and are no longer on the team. The Nebraska wrestling handbook supposedly bans such things. Is this fair? From the article: "'Paul Donahoe and Kenny Jordan have been permanently dismissed from our wrestling program,' Nebraska wrestling coach Mark Manning said in a statement released Tuesday. 'The history of behavior of these men, including the current matter, does not reflect the standard of excellence we aspire to on and off the mat." "

Four others who've announced they won't be attending are -- Ted Stevens (AK), Elizabeth Dole (NC), Gordon Smith (OR), and Susan Collins (ME). All are running for re-election and are in close races.
