WeBook: users write books together, vote on the best, publish

(then split the profits) WeBook just raised $5M. A bunch of writers get together online and write a book together, when and if the book sells, they get 50% of the profit, WeBook gets the other half. "Since its April 2008 launch, WEbook has added thousands of writers, editors, illustrators, and readers to its service and the site is currently hosting 15,000 book projects in genres ranging from short stories to non-fiction. Once a book is completed, it goes through a community vetting process where the users vote on books. Those that perform best during the process will be published by WEbook."

U.S. will bail out AIG, own 80% of it, do you support it?

We will loan them $85 billion, funded by Treasury bills, and we will now all be stockholders of AIG (that's not a misprint, our country will own 80% of the company). After refusing to bail out Meryl Lynch and Lehman Brothers, U.S. Treasury secretary has approved the bailout of AIG. We will use Treasury bonds to raise the dough (what's another $85B?). "AIG said it will repay the money in full with proceeds from the sales of some of its assets. Under the deal, the Federal Reserve will provide a two-year $85 billion emergency loan to AIG, which teetered on the edge of failure because of stresses caused by the collapse of the subprime mortgage market and the credit crunch that ensued. In return, the government will get a 79.9 percent stake in AIG and the right to remove senior management."
