Woman who escaped jail 32 yrs ago: back to jail plus probation

The woman who escaped from jail 32 years ago and was arrested living as a suburban housewife was sentenced yesterday. She has to finish her original sentence (5 1/2 years with good behavior remaining) and gets probation after that for her escape. Her original crime was drug related, if that affects your vote. "Swor said she was arrested when a friend attempted to sell a small amount of heroin to an undercover officer...I wasn't involved in drug trafficking at all. I was a recreational user...acknowledged it was wrong for her to scale the prison fence."

When you buy the game Spore, it installs a piece of software called SecuROM, which limits how many times you can install it on that computer. But, EA never tells you that it's installing this. "The suit contends that EA violated the California Consumer Legal Remedies Act and Unfair Competition Law by failing to inform consumers that by installing Spore, they also inadvertently install a program called SecuROM...'consumers are not told that this technology is actually an entirely separate, stand-alone program which will download, install, and operate on their computer'"

Red wine may protect everyone in a nuclear war

In actual research published yesterday, scientists found that a compound in red wine protected mice against radiation exposure. "Tests in mice showed that resveratrol, when altered using a compound called acetyl, could prevent some of the damage caused by radiation, the researchers told the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology meeting in Boston....Drugs made that way might be used in a large-scale radiological or nuclear emergency, said Dr. Joel Greenberger, a radiation oncologist at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore."
